23 Hours

6:49 AM, Sunday. You know the day that we already lost an hour of sleep? That day.

*Phone rings*

T: (with too much energy for this early in the morning) : "Hey Babe!"

Me, groggily : "Um, do you know what time it is?"

T, ignoring the question: "I need you to do me a favor."

Okay, I concede. Usually these "favors" involve bringing him lunch later in the day, or looking up some paperwork that he forgot to take to work. I can do that.

He continues, "I laid my uniforms on my toolbox when I was getting ready for work and ran back in the house to grab something, and then ran back out to the truck."

Oh no. This is not going to be good. Remembering is not his specialty.

"Anyway, I forgot to put my uniforms in the truck before I left."

I told you it wasn't going to be good, didn't I?

"And I need you to go look for them."

At not even 7 AM? Or at not even the real 6AM because the time has been changed for all of 5 hours, maybe?

Oh, and did I mention it was raining? And dark? Well, it was.

If I had my way about this task it would be done around 2 PM. Unfortunately that was not an option as he kind of needs his uniforms to work, or to run into a burning building. I better go find them.

I trudge to the closet and change into something that covers more than 11 square inches of my body, and then go wake the disgruntled toddler and drag her to the car.

I started the car in an effort to keep her asleep, and explored the yard praying that they were all right there near the driveway.

No such luck. I'm pretty sure that if they made a shock collar for husbands, I would've bought one that day.

I drove slowly through the neighborhood with a spotlight. Yes, in Arkansas, we have spotlights. And I have one in my garage car.

6 houses up from ours, I score one shirt. Yes!

The rest of the neighborhood yields no success. I pull out of the neighborhood and discover a shirt and a pair of pants in the road just outside the neighborhood.

Double Yes!!

4 miles later, all the way on the opposite side of town, I find the last part of his uniforms.

Drenched, I climbed back in the car and turned my butt heater on full blast in some hope that it would dry my rain soaked clothes.

It didn't work.

I drove the uniforms to him, and headed back home. All before the real 7 AM.

It's probably a good thing that he was at work for the next 23 hours.

Oh goodness! I've had phone calls similar with forgotten things but never having to find clothes. He did run to the gym one time and lost his keys out of a hole in his bag... he went and looked for them but never did find them. Glad you were able to find his missing uniform.

Wow. That's dedication. So how in the world did you manage to find them? I guess you have a REALLY good spotlight! So they just blew off the tool box on his truck?

At first I thought you meant he'd just left his uniform at the front door, which would be annoying enough. But going on a clothing scavenger hunt in the early morning rain...wow. Best wife ever!

Oh that is terrible! We're the opposite, my husband would be looking for my uniform. I'm the one who forgets things.

That's impressive you found the whole uniform! What a good wife you are - I'd still be in bed, sleeping!

I just wanted to let you know that this post made me giggle & feel bad for you all in the same. It completely sounds like something that my husband would do. & yes- I'd probably invest in a shock collar for husbands, as well, if they offered them.

humm... new invention if they wouldn't dub it inhumane. lol

Have a great weekend!
